The word broken is defined as “not functioning properly; interrupted; disturbed; disconnected, incomplete; imperfect or out of working order, varying in direction”
If we are honest, many of us have found ourselves in one if not all parts of the definition of this word. We are/were either mentally, emotionally, spiritually or even physically broken, and it has affected us in more ways than one.
Many, won’t admit that we are broken because it means that we have to admit some hard truths about ourselves and the people in our lives. It means that we have to face some harsh realities. Mostly, it means we have to acknowledge some difficult things and pains that we have worked hard to suppress. We don’t want to face it. As a result, we go through life acting like we are ok. Newsflash! You are not ok. You are Broken, but you don’t have to stay that way. The first step to deliverance is being honest with yourself. Do yourself a favor and choose not to walk in denial. Choose to make what may be one of the most difficult decisions you have ever had to make. Choose to not be broken anymore. Trust me I know it’s easier said than done. Nobody wants to go back to a place that has caused them pain or trauma, but the truth is, it has to be dealt with in order for you to free in that place.
We tend to think that because we don’t feel, react or behave a certain way at the time that we are ok, but the moment we experience or encounter anything or anybody that is remotely close to the thing that brought us pain, we are messed up. That’s how you know you are broken.
Still Don’t See It? Let’s Look at the symptoms…
We are walking around, bitter and angry. We are sad or depressed. We don’t know how to love or receive love. We are confused. We are holding grudges. We are drinking, smoking and over eating to numb pain. We are mistreating ourselves and the people we love because we don’t know how to deal with what’s going on in our lives. This list goes on and on. Know why? Because we are Broken.
Anytime you have to pretend or force yourself to be someone other than who you really are because of something that has happened to you…You Are Broken.
Something happened at some point in our lives to bring us to this state. The problem is many of us have never dealt with it. Instead we made it our new norm. We have become adjusted and for some, comfortable with being broken. It’s just easier to leave well enough alone right? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? Wrong! All Wrong! Don’t allow yourself to become comfortable in way of living that God didn’t desire for you to be in. Unfortunately this is what tends to happen, and we convince ourselves that this is ok.
The very first part of the definition says “not functioning properly”. Have you ever had something that was not functioning properly? It’s frustrating right? It’s an inconvenience and disservice to anything and anyone that should be benefiting from it. Our first thought is to just throw it away, unless it is something of value. Honey, if is something that we consider valuable, we will do everything we can to get it fixed. In some cases it’s critical because of the role that thing (or in some cases person(s)) plays in our life. It at that point becomes an urgency to get it repaired.
I remember growing up all the way into adult hood, my Daddy would bring all this broken stuff home. It ran my mother up the wall, but he was somehow convinced that it didn’t matter how bad of shape that thing was it could definitely be fixed. It could be missing pieces, broken in half, rusted (gone give us gangrene) LOL, and everything else, but my Daddy saw that much value in these things that he would spend hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars to repair it. Guess what? For some of those items it work! SMH..some of that stuff chile..let’s just say we had a mini pick-a-part in the back yard LOL, but you get my point.
Guess what? You are valuable. And because you are valuable, you should do everything you possible can to fix the broken parts of you. It doesn’t matter how broken you are, God can fix it! Listen, now it’s going to take some work and it’s going to take some time, but it will happen. Tell yourself “It Will Happen, I will be WHOLE”. Start by fixing the things you control. Now, there are somethings that ONLY GOD can fix. However, we have learned that if we do the possible, God will do the impossible (That is not a scripture) LOL! The bible does say “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” All I’m saying is you do what you can and let God do the rest.
Invest in yourself.. If you need help, seek council, but choose not to go through life broken. Choose to be WHOLE
To be continued…We are just getting started..
